Mixing Vocals: 5 Tips for making your vocals stand out (Waves Vocal Rider, Fabfilter Pro-EQ, Pro-MB)
Published at : September 11, 2021
I had a question on how you can make your vocal stands out on my vocal mixing tutorial: "How I mix my vocals" (https://youtu.be/24X0hEg2pcw). So this is my take on it. Hope it will be useful to some of you. BUT! I'm not a mix engineer so you shouldn't believe a word I say! I may know the theory but practice... is something else! If you have some tips to share, please feel free to comment, would be really appreciated! Using my last jam by the way: https://youtu.be/B2mCq9iiL2k
2 things I didn't talk about:
1. your microphone/arrangement will help (or not) in making your vocal stands out.
2. Obviously, EQ, reverb, effects play a huge role in helping your vocal stands out but I've described my process in my previous video: "How I mix my vocals" (https://youtu.be/24X0hEg2pcw) so this time I focus on other techniques.
00:00 Intro
00:41 Tip1: Don't ride the fader (right away!)
03:59 Tip2: Be lazy with Waves Vocal Rider plugin
07:25 Tip3: Use side chain compression (Izotope Alloy 2)
08:53 What is frequency masking?
09:45 Tip4: Statically fix frequency masking (Fabfilter Pro-EQ)
11:12 Tip5: Dynamically fix frequency masking (Fabfilter Pro-MB)
12:40 Good bye from my phone?
